Derek drops some new new, which you might recognize from his Ultra set earlier this year, and finally gives us the recap from his New Years Eve show in Colorado, the first NYE show done in Pretty Lights’ home state. Click HereClick Here to download the track, and check out the video below
I’ve been waiting for this one to drop for a cooool minute. Hyundai Veloster recently teamed up with the Grammys to bring you something completely new, pairing up 5 established producers (DJ Premiere, Mark Ronson, Skrillex, The Crystal Method, & Pretty Lights) with unlikely counterparts from a variety of genres. Some of it worked (Skrillex/ The Doors & DJ Premiere/ Nas/ Berklee Symphony Orchestra), some of it didn’t (Pretty Lights/ Ralph Stanley/ LeAnn Rimes was a complete disaster), but all in all it’s an amazing project. The film will be showing in select theaters Feb. 16 & 23rd but for now download the soundtrack complete with bonus remixes (see Pretty Lights COMPLETELY redeem himself). You can also stream a few of our favorites after the jump
Pretty Lights offers up his latest single, “We Must Go On”, with accompanying visuals filmed at locations all over the world by he and his fillyfriend/creative director Krystle Blackburn. The chill track brings back the old school Pretty Lights sound which is a welcomed departure from his more recent bass-filled singles. Good stuff. DL below
Pretty Lights has finally released the studio version of the track that accompanied his Bonnaroo 2011 recap video. Words cannot really explain this one… one of the more hard-hitting tracks this guy has done.
Derek on his latest creation:
“I wanted to try and fuse the emotion of dark 60′s soul music with the energy of raw bass heavy dubstep. All the instruments were recorded to tape and then pressed to vinyl and then sampled for the sole purpose of attaining a warm organic timbre, and all the bass and synth sounds were reprocessed through analog synth modules to get a dirtier and at the same time warmer tone. It’s my first attempt at producing in a new style I like to call analog electronica. It’s modern electronic music production created with an approach based on techniques from 40-50 years ago.”
This one has quickly become one of my favorite Pretty Lights tracks and I’m interested to see what he has in store for his yet-to-be-announced upcoming EP.
The other new PLM signee SuperVision will be dropping Telescopic along with Paul Basic’s The Mirror on September 27th. The single “Arcane” is solid. Looks like Derek is putting together a dream team of extremely talented producers.
The two newest signees of Pretty Lights Music, Paul Basic and Supervision, have each released a new single from their upcoming projects. Paul Basic’s “Daydream” is a pretty dope remix of the instrumentals from the Lupe Fiasco track of the same name. Check the track and be on the lookout for his Pretty Lights debut The Mirror very soon.
Yet another ridiculous recap video from Derek Smith, this time of his recent stint melting faces in Colorado. Accompanying the visuals is a sick new remix of Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed & Confused” (with the guitar riff from “Black Dog” thrown in for good measure.) Check it out and download the track below… Word on the street is that even bigger things are coming from this guy very soon
Here’s a new one from Pretty Lights‘ Derek Smith created specifically for All Good Music Fest in Masontown, WV this past weekend. Don’t plan on hearing this in any upcoming albums, but that in no way means this one isn’t worth jamming on the reg. With the end of the summer festival circuit approaching, be expecting a new 7-syllable EP in the very near future.
Starting to think this dude never sleeps. Pretty Lights just dropped yet ANOTHER new track, this time a sick mix of Big Willy and Sublime (along with a little bit of EVERYTHING) to celebrate the first day of Summer. This is one of the new tracks he dropped for us at Bonnaroo this year (if you weren’t lucky enough to catch the performance see the HD Recap here). It’s getting to the point to where if I don’t hear a new EP from him soon, I might lose my mind.
EDIT: Instead of the stream, we added some nice visuals:
